President's Message

By Lowell Stevens, Chapter President
lowell.kysci@gmail.com

Welcome everyone to our second interactive newsletter, bringing you stories of member hunts and adventures, recaps of fun events and announcements of those to come.

Hope you all are enjoying fall and all the opportunities to get outside that come with it. Thanks to those who attended the summer membership meeting, white tail site-in and hugely successful Dove Hunt at Board member Trey Webb’s family farm. It’s the member participation that make these events fun and your board is always open to new ideas to get together, share stories and celebrate our passion.

See below for upcoming events including a first ever for the Chapter, Pheasant Tower Shoot in December and a Hunter’s Happy Hour in January. The Happy Hour is something many Chapters have been doing to simply provide for more meet and greet opportunity. That’s it, no auction, no banquet, no complicated program – just conversation with likeminded friends, old and new.

And speaking of banquets – our is coming up February 28th, 2026! The committee has been working tirelessly and we’ve already secured a wonderful slate of over 25 live auction items including an incredible Scottish Pheasant Shoot, Buffalo hunt in Africa, Blue Nilgai in Texas and Argentina Doves. We’re still collecting silent auction items, so if you have anything you’d like to donate or coordinate for the auction, please let me know.

I look forward to seeing everyone at these upcoming events, have a great rest of the fall and thank you for your continuing support and enthusiasm in making SCI first for hunters.

RUNNING DOWN A DREAM ...

It is the first morning on the Laxá í Aðaldal River in Iceland.

My good friend Larry Richards and I are fishing with our American Guide, Vinny McFarlane. We start on a wide, clear, knee-deep pool full of rising brown trout. Five weights, light tippet, and classic dry flies are the order of the day. On my third cast, a gorgeous brown sips my parachute adams and comes to hand.

Larry moves out into deeper water and catches three nice brown trout on less than ten casts. I am amazed not just by the scenery, the cool clean air, the snow-capped mountains in the distance, but also by the amazing volume of rising trout.

SCI Range night event at the New Level Range

We had the SCI Range night event at the New Level Range in Jeffersontown last night.  Lots of camaraderie, shooting practice with great food and time to catch up with everyone’s past years hunts and future plans.
