Awards

The annual SCI Convention provides its members access to the greatest hunting convention in the world.  Exhibitors range from outfitters around the world who help you plan your next adventure to art, furs, jewelry, firearms and much more.  Also during that convention, SCI hosts amazing evenings of entertainment, live auctions and programs during which chapters and individuals are recognized for their yearly accomplishments.  During those evenings, based on information gathered by SCI committees about the many SCI Chapters around the world, SCI selects one Chapter to honor as the best in the world in each size category!  Over the years, the Kentuckiana Chapter of SCI, which falls in the 51-100 member category, has brought home many of those coveted awards.  To every board member, past and present, and every chapter member and friend, past and present, of this chapter, you are a part of our winning these awards!

SCI Chapter Of The Year Award

Traditionally, “Chapter Night” at the SCI Convention is when SCI recognizes chapters for their many projects, programs and contributions in support of our mission to be “First for Hunters.”  Several core criteria are used in determining the winning chapter including the chapter’s support of education; wildlife conservation; humanitarian service programs and projects; community outreach; membership activities and chapter representation at SCI board meetings; partnership with other like-minded conservation organizations and communication with our members; a history of full compliance with SCI Bylaws, Policies and Procedures; plus working to protect the future of hunting. In addition, there is the standard compliance of conducting an annual fundraiser and submitting the required 30% from the largest fundraiser and the IRS ‘990 Review.

SCI Newsletter Of The Year Award

Everyone who reads our chapter newsletter will agree the newsletter award is well deserved.  As with all awards, a sub-committee of SCI members is charged with the task of reviewing all chapter publications submitted against established criteria. Kentuckiana Hunter consistently meets and exceeds that criteria not only due to the quality and variety of articles submitted but also due to the hours spent by our editors and publisher in reviewing and fine-tuning each edition to be the very best it can be.

Kentuckiana Hunter highlights projects, programs, and fundraising events as seen in each edition, hunt articles which make you chuckle or feel you are part of the adventure, the Conservation Corner, Legal Briefs, Recipes, and Calendar of Events, all of which have become regular features.  Our chapter newsletter, the Kentuckiana Hunter, also highlights chapter activities, member hunt reports, conservation highlights, current legal issues affecting hunters, humanitarian services, educational projects and other programs to name a few.

In each issue, you find exciting member adventure articles as well as valuable information about the programs and activities in which our chapter is involved. Thank you to all who contribute information and articles to our newsletter. Last year was the 9th consecutive year our chapter has received this award and the 14th year overall.

SCI & Cabelas Young Hunter Of The Year

The SCI and Cabela’s Young Hunter of the Year is awarded each year to an outstanding young man and young woman. This award is not just about hunting success, it is about community service, scholastic achievement, participating in humanitarian service projects and conservation programs as well as sharing a commitment to the goals and mission of SCI.  These young hunters are certainly role models for other young hunters around the world, and they are our future. To be considered for this award a comprehensive application to include an essay, letters of recommendation from their SCI Chapter, counselors, school principal, and other community leaders is submitted from each candidate. In addition, the candidates must document their academic accomplishments, community service, conservation work, and hunting/outdoors experiences.

Through education and mentoring from adults and peers, the young hunter award recipients are in line and ready to carry on our hunting heritage. Our Chapter is privileged to have been represented by three international SCI & Cabelas Young Hunters of the Year.

Outstanding Program Publication Award

To encourage chapters to fully inform, the Kentuckiana Chapter of SCI’s Fundraiser Program Publication, Safari After Dark, was selected as “Outstanding Fundraiser Program” for our Chapter size.

This is the first time our Chapter’s program has won this award.  Fundraiser program criteria include visual appeal, design presentation, reference to drawings or auctions, presentation of donors, chapter information and membership development.  This award is also grouped and awarded by chapter membership size.
